Monica is a cultural intellectual property and fashion lawyer with 8+ years of experience in international IP Law and various legal matters related to the fashion business and creative industries.

 

Monica is the author of the TEDx Talk: “Cultural Fashion: Transform the Fashion Industry From Villain to Hero” and founder of the Cultural Intellectual Property Rights Initiative® (CIPRI), a global network enabling cultural sustainability.

With a double specialization in EU law and international arbitration, Monica advises her clients on various legal matters related to the fashion business and creative industries, including contract negotiations, various IP matters from trademark and design registration to drafting licensing agreements and managing IP portfolios, representation and assistance in alternative dispute resolution procedures etc.

Monica also acts as a mediator in implementing benefit-sharing business models in the fashion business based on integrating traditional craftsmanship and collaborations with craft and artisan communities in contemporary fashion supply chains.

 

As a cultural sustainability consultant she advises business on culturally sustainable product development and conducts cultural ethics due-diligence reports. She is also the creator of the 3Cs' Rule: Consent. Credit. Compensation© - a tool designed to help the fashion industry solve the problem of cultural appropriation and to guide best practices for ethical engagement in co-design and collaborations with Indigenous people and local communities.

She hosts workshops, talks and lectures and offers legal consulting and sustainability strategy consulting

 

Monica is a member of the WearSustain Network, a One Young World Ambassador, Top 40 Under 40 EU-India Leaders Awardee (2019).

 

On 26 April 2018 – as part of the World Intellectual Property Day “Women in Innovation and Creativity” campaign – Monica launched the Cultural Intellectual Property Rights Initiative® (CIPRI) in Berlin, Germany.
